Copywriter, Professional Division

As a new role, the Copywriter (Professional division) brings with it the unique opportunity to define the Nordic Naturals brand for health care practitioners, and help determine the best way to educate and grow business in unique practitioner sub-markets (e.g chiropractic, naturopathic, etc.). It is an excellent fit for someone who enjoys digging into scientific research and marketing, and who values communicating that information to audiences in an easy-to-understand way. The Copywriter (Professional division) is part of a small team within Marketing whose direct focus is to provide greater access of information to doctors who will use that information to determine nutritional health solutions to patients. To a lesser degree, the Copywriter will also be able to work outside the professional channel to support International Sales, Retail Sales, Product Development, etc. The Copywriter (Professional division) will support Nordic Naturals Marketing Department by writing original and compelling copy to help promote products, and the brand, primarily to customers in the health care professional channel of the natural products marketplace. This position requires creative, outside-the-box writing in order to successfully position our brand and products, balanced by an analytical and objective approach to research and science in order to identify and write about information that is meaningful to practitioners and their patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop original copy for marketing projects including, but not limited to, new product launches, educational materials, sales initiatives, trade shows, digital media (e.g. blog posts, e-blasts) and social media needs, company statements, media interviews, and advertising campaigns as assigned
  • Understand and write to distinct health care audiences (e.g. naturopaths, chiropractors, optometrists, pharmacies, and patients, etc.) within the professional channel of the natural products marketplace
  • Write for varied audiences outside the health care channel, including consumers, retailers, and international partners and customers
  • Edit and rewrite copy based on product updates, new research, industry trends, and the evolution of the Nordic Naturals brand
  • Work closely with other members of the marketing team (e.g. copywriters, designers, web developers, etc.) to create industry-leading content
  • Research health practitioner markets, and monitor advertising trends, consumer surveys, and other data regarding marketing of goods and services to determine effective strategies to promote the Nordic Naturals brand
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, education, and product development teams to develop key messaging
  • Consistently monitor the competition to gain working knowledge of messaging, products, claims, and campaigns
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned
  • Some travel may be required

Must-Have Skills

  • The Copywriter (Professional division) must have 2-3 years experience as a professional writer (preferably for a technical or scientific company), or a graduate degree (or certificate) in a natural/biological/social science field along with substantial preparation in writing (e.g. thesis).
  • Must be able to read, understand, and distill complex scientific information in order to write about it for different audiences. She/he must be able to do market research in order to understand how to successfully position Nordic Naturals Professional Line within the context of the natural products marketplace.
  • This position requires the ability to focus and become immersed in the details of research and writing, while maintaining a nimble work style that allows him/her to switch gears quickly as project priorities change. Adherence to deadlines, and the ability to prioritize/re-prioritize competing tasks is also a must.
  • BA/BS in Journalism, English, Marketing or related field, plus 2-3 years experience writing for technology-focused or health care audiences, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate degree in research-focused field with proven preparation in writing (e.g. thesis) will also be considered.
  • Capacity to handle multiple projects at once with good organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of naturopathic health care and medical research methods is desired.
  • Education focus on dietary supplements, research, research methods, etc. is also beneficial

Other Requirements:

  • This is a full time, in house position at our headquarters in Watsonville, California.
  • Telecommuting will not be considered.
